Oberlin College and its Conservatory make this a very interesting place to live. It is a small college town with a lot going on, plus proximity to Lake Erie and Cleveland's many attractions.  It is part of the The North Coast Inland Trail for biking and hiking.

What Is Not Special about Oberlin

Winters are cold.

Climate and Physical Environment

Oberlin is 31 miles south and west of Cleveland. January average temperature is in the mid 20's and the average July temperature is about 70. Humidity is about average.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Like most college towns there are some interesting restaurants to choose from.  The Oberlin Heritage Center celebrates the history of the town and its people. The historic Apollo Theater is now owned by the college. It has had several renovations but remains a single screen theater.  The Conservatory of Music is located on the college campus. Students and residents benefit from over 500 performances yearly, most free of charge, with concerts and recitals almost daily.  The Allen Memorial Art Museum is associated with the college.  The college also hosts plays throughout the academic year.

Crime

The crime rate is about half the national average.

Medical Facilities

There is the Allen Community Hospital in town, plus many others in Cleveland.

Transportation

There is one bus route in Oberlin. The North Coast Inland Trail is a paved bicycle and pedestrian path to Kipton and Elyria. The path is built on the former railroad right-of-way of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway.  Oberlin is a very walkable town. Cleveland obviously has a top notch airport on this side of town.
