It is a fast growing town that people really like to live in.  The area is pretty with a moderate climate and a strong economy. Crime rate is low.

Climate and Physical Environment

Climate is mild but there are definitely 4 seasons. Median Winter temp is around 30^o and median Summer temp is around 88-90^o.  People in Matthews love to landscape.  Lots of old growth, expansive trees, flowering shrubs, make for a lush environment.  Extensive greenway and park system provide walking/biking trails.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

There is a library in the new town hall. The Matthews Alive Festival is a Labor Day weekend celebration dedicated to the support of local non-profit organizations through music, arts and community involvement. ArtFest comes along in October. The Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts has an active schedule along with classes. The Levine Senior Center offers an extensive program for members. There is a diverse assortment of restaurants within a 5 mile radius of the historic district.  A local Farmers Market is open every Saturday.
