Where to Retire in Apex and Home Prices

Apex has had its ups and downs in its history. Recently Apex is on the upswing with many new communities being developed here (see link to Apex Active Communities at top of page). Property values have been unusually strong, with Zillow reporting the median home value at $631,985 in mid-2022, and a 40% increase during the past year.

What Is Special about Apex

Apex is a fast-growing small town near NC's vibrant Research Triangle Park. The town's rich historical beginning is highlighted by the 1914 Apex Union Depot, now restored to its original glory. The town is very affluent, has a low crime rate, and is under 15 miles from the attractions of Raleigh. Durham and UNC are also close by.

What Is Not Special about Apex

It's a small town and a bit of a backwater compared to the college town excitement of Durham and its University of North Carolina. A 2006 major chemical fire in a waste processing facility was not good publicity for the town.

Climate and Physical Environment

Apex is located near Raleigh and Cary in almost the exact center of North Carolina.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Apex has an active community supported library.  PeakFest is an annual fair that attracts big crowds for its crafters, fine arts, and food. The attractions of the University of North Carolina are close by.

The crime rate is very low in Apex.

Medical Facilities

Multiple hospitals are within 15 miles - in Cary or Raleigh.

Raleigh-Durham International is only 11 miles away with fast connections to just about anywhere.
