Living a Small town Lifestyle in Barnegat, New_Jersey

The small town of Barnegat is growing very fast due to its excellent location on the Jersey shore and the Garden State Parkway.  Barnegat is about 45 minutes north of Atlantic City, which is where you would go for entertainment. There is a Barnegat Town, Barnegat Township, and Barnegat Light. All are in Ocean County on the mainland, just inside the barrier island of Long Beach Island. Philadelphia is slightly closer than New York City, each more than an hour away.

The Jersey beaches are some of the best in the world.  Unfortunately they and the roads can be very busy in season. The area, including Manahawkin and Toms River, has a tremendous number of medical facilities.

What Is Not Special about Barnegat

Traffic in season is intense and is a car dependent community, not considered walkable. Growth is rampant, with taxes and cost of living high.

Climate and Physical Environment

Located in southern New Jersey along the Atlantic Ocean. It is protected from the ocean by Long Beach Island. There are many bays that provide excellent boating and fishing. The average July high temperature is 86 and the average January high is 41 (the low is 22). The wettest month is August (5").

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Atlantic City is your best entertainment option, but NYC and Philly are relatively close by good roads.

Crime

Barnegat's crime rate is lower than the national average.

Medical Facilities

Manahawkin and Toms River have many medical facilities and rehab places. Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin is the biggest. There are also a number of assisted and independent living facilities in the area.

Transportation

Garden State Parkway is a convenient road running north and south.
