Living a Resort Community Lifestyle in Pinehurst Village, North_Carolina

Pinehurst Village is one of the most famous golf resorts in the world. It is somewhat unique in that golf is the central draw (some would say religion) of this charming little enclave in south central North Carolina (75 miles east of Charlotte). This classic resort village is set in a serene and beautiful pine forest. The resort is so sedate that you could drive by the entrance to the town and easily miss it. The community was founded by James Walker Tufts in 1895 with the goal of being a healthful retreat. Famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted assisted in the design. Then the golf followed. The U.S.(golf) Open Tournament is held here periodically at the famed Pinehurst #2 course. Payne Stuart won here shortly before his tragic death – a statue on the course commemorates that exciting victory. The village is self-contained with an elegant but small downtown. A number of small hotels and B & B’s offer luxurious resort accommodations.

Where to Retire in Pinehurst Village and Home Prices

Owning a lot in the village normally gives one the privilege of joining the Pinehurst Golf Club. The village and the resort within it tend to be quite exclusive. Surrounding communities have sought to capture some of Pinehurst’s cachet with “piney-sounding” names like Southern Pines, Whispering Pines, etc. Many of these communities are exclusive; some offer a budget version of the golf community. Single family homes are the predominant form of housing.
Homes are available in a variety of price ranges. According to Zillow, the median home value in Pinehurst was $311,392 in early 2021. Prices can vary depending on size of home. Communities near Pinehurst, such as Southern Pines, will be less expensive.
