What Is Special about Lexington

The town is one of the fast growing towns in America. It is located near Lake Murray and Columbia. The Move Over Law, a law that requires drivers to change lanes when there is a stopped emergency vehicle on the side of the road, originated in Lexington, SC after a paramedic was struck and killed here. Lake Murray is held by a 1.7 mile long dam in which people are free to drive, bike, run, or walk across. There is a public swimming area. Paws Park is a park for dogs.

What Is Not Special about Lexington

It could feel provincial and southern to many transplanted northerners.

Climate and Physical Environment

Lexington is located near the center of the state. The average January temperature is in the mid 40's and the average July temperature in the low 80's. Year round humidity is higher than the national average. The city of Columbia is 15 miles away.

The Parks Department sponsors Movies in the Park. The 2 top-rated restaurants on Trip Advisor are Ganbei and Antai, both offering Asian cuisine.

Crime

The crime rate is about 2/3 the national average.

Medical Facilities

There is the local Lexington Medical Center as well as more extensive facilities in nearby Columbia.

Transportation

There is both an Amtrak station and a Metropolitan airport about 10 miles away in Columbia; Lexington is not considered a walkable community.
