Hood River, Oregon is located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Hood River is also one of the world's premiere wind surfing spots due to the high winds generated by the gorge and its 4,000-foot cliffs. The Lewis and Clark Trail, Multnomah Falls, and Mount Hood appeal to other outdoor adventurers. Other local attractions include visiting orchards and vineyards. The population is just over 5,800, although over 20,000 people live in the area.

There are many nice outdoor shops and good restaurants in the downtown. Hood River is located in Hood River County. The city of Portland is about 60 miles away.

Climate and Physical Environment

Hood River is located at the confluence of Hood and Columbia rivers and 30 miles north of Mt. Hood. The terrain is hilly as you leave the river and rises to major mountains such as Mount Hood and Mt. Saint Helens.

There are several museums in the area, including the International Museum of Carousel Art and a Historical Museum. The Columbia Center for the Arts presents plays and other cultural events. The community has a number of festivals and other events through the year to make for a lively scene.
