Living a LGBT Lifestyle in Pensacola, Florida

Most people would not think of Pensacola, population 53,000 and home to many military active duty and retired personnel,  would be a popular town for gay celebrations. But Gay Memorial Day Weekend Party is one of the nation's larger GLBT gatherings. It is a cross between gay circuit party and regional gay pride event and is held May 26 to May 30, 2011. As many as 150,000 attendees are expected to attend this year. Emerald City is the area's largest gay dance bar. Located on Pensacola Bay, many people move here to enjoy its emerald  green waters and sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.   Recreational opportunities are plentiful with the many bays, Gulf, and plentiful land.  Vacationers and homeowners come here because of its climate and waterfront, and because housing prices and cost of living are low.
