Located east of Seattle is one of the Northwest's most affluent suburbs. Home to Microsoft and Nintendo, it is located on Lake Sammamish. The feel of the town is suburban but it has many lovely amenities. Redmond attracts affluent residents, many of them active 55+ who enjoy activities like cycling.

What Is Special about Redmond

Redmond is known as "The bicycle capital of the Northwest" because of its annual bike races and Velodrome. It is home to over 45 parks and 40 miles of trails for biking, hiking, running, and horseback riding. It also hosts several major corporations.

What Is Not Special about Redmond

It is very expensive to live in Redmond.

Climate and Physical Environment

Redmond is a suburb of Seattle. It's mostly east and a little north of Seattle, located at the top of Lake Sammamish. It experiences a slightly muted version of the Pacific Northwest climate - fairly wet winters and long summer days.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Redmond has a wide variety of performing arts including the Eastside Symphony, the Second Story Repertory theater company, and the Washington Academy of Performing Arts. There is an extensive array of public outdoor sculptures. Richmond Derby Days is an annual festival. The amphitheater in Marymoor Park hosts frequent concerts including big name performers.

Crime

As you might expect in such an affluent town and suburb, the crime rate is about half the national average.

There are medical centers and facilities in Redmond and the surrounding area.

Transportation

I-405 runs near town.The Seattle Airport is very close. Redmond is not a very walkable community.
