Southbury is comprised of rural countryside, suburban neighborhoods, and many historic districts.
It is also home to the largest retirement community in Connecticut, Heritage Village (see Active Communities link at top right). Heritage Village has enough residents (4000) to tilt the average age in the town, which is about 46 years.
According to Zillow, the median list price in Southbury was $272,500 in early 2019, and calls it a "Hot Market" at this time.

What Is Not Special about Southbury

The average age of the town is older than most. Connecticut is a highly taxed state (2nd highest in the country, after NJ).

Climate and Physical Environment

Located in the rolling (and rocky) hills of Central Connecticut. You definitely get 4 seasons here

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Heritage Village has a full slate of cultural activities.  The local library is a good one. New Haven and Stamford have outstanding cultural programs and resources and are just a short drive. The Shepaug Dam on the Housatonic River offers and eagle observation area. Southbury's old library became a senior center

Crime in Southbury is a little less than the national average.

Medical Facilities

Hospitals in New Haven, Derby, Waterbury, and Stamford are within 20 miles.

New Haven offers Amtrak and Metro North service, as well as a convenient airport (unfortunately with very limited service).  Hartford's Bradley Airport is less than 1 hour away.
