According to Zillow.com the median sale price of a home in Islandia is about $320,000 in late 2013.  Taxes on long island tend to be high.  There are a number of active adult communities in the area.

What is special about Islandia

Islandia is on Long Island, which is a very interesting place to live, particularly for boaters or beach goers. One has access to either the Atlantic Ocean or Long Island Sound within a short drive. Also not too far away is the east end of Long Island, which is becoming a significant tourist draw with many wineries and B & B's.

What is not special about Islandia

Long Island tends to be crowded and expensive. It is very hard to get on and off of - either drive to New York to rejoin the mainland, or take a ferry to Connecticut.

Located approximately in the center of Long Island in Suffolk County. Long Island is a long peninsula that stretches from New York City almost all the way to Block Island, Rhode Island. It is the remnant of a glacier from the last Ice Age. Islandia is part of the town of Islip
