However, if you move inland a bit or go for a smaller place you can do better.

What Is Special about Long Beach

The town offers great beaches, a convention center located in prime location, and many interesting residential neighborhoods that are very walkable. It is also considered one of the top urban bicycling towns in America. The Queen Mary, proud siren of the seas, is a converted hotel in the harbor. Cal State University Long Beach and its amazing Walter Center pyramid sports arena is also located here. Long Beach is famous for its sports and athletes as well as the Long Beach Grand Prix race.

Long Beach is located on the Pacific Coast in southern California between LA and San Diego. The average Jan temp is in the high 50's and the average July temp is in the mid 70's.

There are a number of cultural attractions in Long Beach in addition to Cal State University.  Those include the Rancho Los Alamitos historical site, the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, street art, the Long Beach Museum of Art, and the East Village Arts District. There are also classical music concerts and opera.

The crime rate is slightly above average.

There are 6 hospitals and medical centers in Long Beach, in addition to be being very close to those in LA.

Transportation

Long Beach has just about every form of transportation. In addition to great walkability and biking, it also has freeways, bus service and commuter rail going north and south from LA Metro. Long Beach Airport has commercial flights.
