The Chautauqua Institution is a beautiful and famous lakefront summer resort and education center for adults and youth, located in southwestern New York State. Situated on over 2,000 acres along Chautauqua Lake, the community offers a 9-week season presenting diverse programs in the arts, education, religion, and music, along with educational activities, theater, symphony, opera, and visual arts exhibitions. There are about 400 year-round residents, with the population increasing to over 7,500 during the summer season. Housing includes cottages, single-family homes, and apartments, with the historical Athenaeum Hotel also located on the grounds. Restaurants and shops are found on the Institution's Plaza.
