There are many active adult or over 55 communities in suburbs surrounding the city. Burbank is home to one of the most interesting communities for retired artists in the world, the Burbank Senior Artists Colony  (follow the link at left for "Burbank Active Communities").
According to Zillow, the median home value was $850,719 in early 2020.

What Is Special about Burbank

Burbank is billed as the "Media Capital of the World" because it is home to so many large media companies (such as Walt Disney Co.. Viacom, Warner Bros. Many famous movies have been filmed here. Johnnie Carson's Tonight Show was produced in Burbank.  Crime is very low for this size community. Burbank has a very high Walk Score number of 73.6  from Walkscore.com.  Burbank has a special equestrian district which is quite unique.  In the Rancho Equestrian District residents are allowed to keep horses in their backyards.

What Is Not Special about Burbank

The NBC "Tonight Show" is no longer produced in Burbank. It is a large suburban oriented city and won't be for people who want a small town retirement.

Climate and Physical Environment

Burbank is northeast of Los Angeles in the eastern end of the San Fernando Valley. The average July high temperature is 89 and the average January low is 42. The wettest month is February (4") (the rest of the year other than winter is quite dry).

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Retirees in Burbank have the music of the Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra,  the Starlight Bowl, city golf course, horse stables at the equestrian center, a selection of fine restaurants, the Downtown Burbank Mall, a burgeoning "Burbank Village" shopping district, and many theatres, parks, and libraries.  The Warner Bros. Studio VIP tour is fun for visitors and residents alike. Universal Studios theme park is next door. Downtown L.A. is 15 minutes away by metrolink commuter train. Griffith Park, one of the largest city parks(4,310 acres) in the nation, is next door with golf courses.  Malibu(surfing) is 40 minutes away. Wrightwood(skiing) is 90 minutes away.

Crime

Burbank crime is about a third lower than the national average.

Medical Facilities

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is the major hospital in Burbank. The Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center opened in 2009. Other hospitals are in nearby Los Angeles.

Transportation

Amtrak and Metrolink commuter trains are available. Next door, in North Hollywood is the Red Line subway.  Burbank has its own airport.  Nearby(35minutes plus) LAX is one of the largest airports in the world. Burbank is served by the 5 and 134 freeways.  Burbank has a very high Walk Score number of 73.6 from walkscore.com.
