Museums, shops, hotels, and historical sites are located on the opposite side of town where Gettysburg College is located.

What is special about Gettysburg

Civil War buffs love Gettysburg with the many historical sites and buildings, museums, tours, and shops, but the ethnically diverse town also offers beautiful scenery with farmlands, parks and trails. Gettysburg is also home to a variety of artists, musicians, historians and colleges.

What is not special about Gettysburg

The summer tourist season, and a lot of college students; property taxes are higher than in some other Pennsylvania counties.

January's average temperature is 31 degrees, and July's average is 76 degrees. Gettysburg gets about 25 inches of snow annually.

Culturally, the historic scene is the main draw to Gettysburg, but there are also lectures, events and festivals hosted by the town and through the colleges located here. Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia are not all that far away for many more cultural activities.

Transportation

The small town is walkable and bikeable with many historical tours using bikes as a means to get around. YATA is the public bus system in Gettysburg, and there is a Rabbit Transit commuter bus to Harrisburg several times a day. Gettysburg has a regional airport, with the nearest international airports in Harrisburg about 50 miles away, or the Baltimore/Washington D.C. International Airport about 60 miles away.
