Living a College Town Lifestyle in Chester, ENGLAND

The University of Chester adds a scholarly feel to Chester, a town of about 77,000 that is south of Liverpool. Chester is one of the most interesting college towns in England. It is a former Roman outpost and then medieval city. The walls from the latter era still almost completely surround Chester, and it is one of the best preserved walled cities in the British Isles. Chester has a number of medieval buildings, but some of the black-and-white buildings within the city centre are actually Victorian restorations. Tourism is very important to the local economy. The city's central shopping area includes its unique Rows (two levels of shops) which date from medieval times. The Rows includes what is believed to be the oldest shop front in England.

Living in town is generally more expensive than in the nearby environs. "Shared ownership" is available in many small apartments for less than 50,000 pounds, with very large home approaching 1 million pounds.

What Is Special about Chester

Chester Racecourse attracts thousands of spectators for its flat racing. The city has a number of attractions including its architecture and the Grosvenor Museum.
