Marblehead contains many summer and second homes that residents of nearby Toledo, Cleveland, and Columbus visit during the tourist season. Zillow reports the median home value was $344,041, in early 2022. There are homes along the lake that sell in the $millions. Lakeside Chautauqua has homes and cottages, but the rentals are pricey.

What Is Special about Marblehead

Marblehead is part of the area know as Vacationland and referred to as Lake Erie’s Shores and Islands, which includes the nearby islands of Put-in-Bay and Kelley’s Island which are very popular during the summer months; the scenic town offers a lot of outdoor recreation for all seasons including ice fishing charters in the winter; East Harbor State Park is also located here and features sandy beaches, hiking trails, boating and camping.

What Is Not Special about Marblehead

If you don't enjoy outdoor activities you may not find much to do here, and the area experiences long, cold winters. Marblehead is a little bit isolated with the nearest large city being Toledo, and is about an hour away, with Cleveland 80 miles from Marblehead, and Columbus 125 miles away.

Climate and Physical Environment

Marblehead sits on the tip of a peninsula with beautiful views of Lake Erie and Sandusky Bay. It experiences four distinct seasons with January's average temperature 29 degrees (not including wind chill temperatures!), and July's average 72 degrees. The average annual snowfall is 24".

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Situated on a peninsula, Marblehead is of course outdoor orientated, and is home to East Harbor State Park and to Marblehead Lighthouse State Park. There are several restaurants with good reviews from Tripadvisor.com, including locally owned and a wine bar, with more eateries to choose from during the busy summer season. Marblehead hosts several popular summer events which sees thousands of visitors each year. An art gallery is located here, along with the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society Museum which displays photos and artifacts of the history of the Lighthouse, but the cultural scene is provided by Lakewood Chautauqua, an interesting summer, and gated community that is part of the Chautauqua Movement, and provides a variety of cultural, intellectual, spiritual and physical learning opportunities.

Crime

The crime rate here is very low even during the busy summer season.

Magruder Hospital is about 12 miles away in Port Clinton.

Transportation

The nearest airport is Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, about 70 miles away.
