Living a Beach Lifestyle in Brunswick, Maine

Brunswick is a beautiful small town near the southern coast of Maine. It is home to one of the most elite colleges in the nation, Bowdoin College, as well as the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. There are many homes and areas on the list of historic places because Brunswick was home to prosperous sea captains in its early history.  . This part of the world is a big tourist destination, particularly in summer when folks come to enjoy the beach be by the sea.

Some retirees choose to live in the beautiful town of Brunswick. There are also active adult and 55+ communities in this part of southern Maine. According to Zillow,  the median home value in Brunswick was about $325,027 in late 2020.  The National Association of Realtors reports that the median home price in nearby Portland was $336,100 in the second quarter of 2020.  Prices in Brunswick are probably higher than the rest of the state. Homes closer to the water and those in historic districts will be much more.

WInters are cold in Brunswick but not as bad as in Maine's interior. It is a small town. The closing of Brunswick Naval Air Station highlights the problem Maine always has with jobs.

Brunswick is on Maine's southern coast and the mouth of the Androscoggin River. The average July high is 80 and the average January temperature is 20. November is the wettest  month with just under 5" of precip.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Bowdoin College and the Bowdoin College Museum of Art (architect: Henry Bacon who also designed Washington's Lincoln Memorial) are 2 centers of Brunswick's cultural life.  The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum is a local site of interest, along with the Captain john Curtis Memorial Library

Crime

The crime rate is very low in Brunswick, about one third the national average.

Medical Facilities

Mid-Coast Hospital and Parkview Memorial serve Brunswick.

Transportation

I 95 is nearby. Portland has a good airport.
