New Smyrna Beach is a peaceful beach community of 23,000 located in the northern portion of Florida’s east coast. The city incorporates the city of Coronado Beach. New Smyrna Beach was the center of intense real estate speculation during the 1920’s; about 800 buildings from that era survive. After the boom a severe depression lasted until after WW II, from which time the area has steadily grown. New Smyrna Beach is located in Volusia County

New Smyrna Beach gives retirees an alternative to living in the big city or in a very affluent community. Active adults can choose from beachfront living on the barrier island, or more traditional housing and adult communities on the mainland and across the intracoastal waterway. There are some condos and homes on the market, as well as many high rise apartments overlooking the ocean at much higher prices.
