Living a Beach Lifestyle in Westbrook, Connecticut

Westbook is a charming small New England town on the beaches of Long Island Sound. It has a lovely little downtown with a square in the center. This is a big sailing and boating town with many large marinas. The beach runs for several miles with plenty of public access.

The average home price in Westbrook was about $502,571 in late 2022, according to Zillow. Proximity to water is a big determinant in price.  There are some active adult communities in the area (see link at left).

What Is Special about Westbrook

Westbrook is in a pretty location along the shore and offers a lot of outdoor recreation, shopping, and great restaurants. I-95 provides access to NYC, Boston, or Providence, Rhode Island.

What Is Not Special about Westbrook

Winters can be harsh. There is summer traffic on I-95 from people going to New England for weekends and vacations.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

While Westbrook itself has some festivals, a new library, and some interesting shops, nearby Old Saybrook, Madison, and New Haven offer more cultural opportunities.  There are some nice restaurants in town including one of CT's best, Cafe Routier, as well as the pasta heaven called Sal's.

Crime

The crime rate here is very low.

Medical Facilities

Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center is located in Westbrook and offers an emergency department along with other services.

Transportation

The Shore Line East has a station located in Westbrook for several trips per day to New Haven ( where you can get a train to Grand Central Station), or to points east of Westbrook, including New London. AMTRAK has a station in nearby Old Saybrook. The nearest airport is Tweed New Haven Regional Airport about 25 miles away, and Bradley International Airport near Hartford, is about 60 miles away. The Estuary Transit District is the public transit provider for the 9 Town Connecticut River Estuary region.
