What Is Special about San Angelo

San Angelo is a mid-sized city with lakes, a State Park and two college campuses. It is also home to art museums and galleries, a symphony and civic theater. 

What Is Not Special about San Angelo

The town is located in a sparsely-populated part of Texas and is far from the metropolitan areas of Dallas, Houston, El Paso and San Antonio.  It is not a walkable community.

Climate and Physical Environment

The average January temperature is 46 degrees and July's average temperature is 83 degrees.  San Angelo receives about 20 inches of rain annually.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

San Angelo is a historic town with Fort Concho located on the banks of the Concho River.  It is also home to The San Angelo Museum of Art and the Chicken Farm Art Center, along with other art galleries, and a symphony, civic theater, ballet company, and a convention center.  The town also offers several parks, lakes and outdoor recreation, and boasts an international water lilly collection.  San Angelo is also host to one of the top rodeos in the country, a week long event held each February with a parade, concerts and a carnival. The San Angelo Colts are a minor league baseball team that makes their home here, as does the San Angelo Bandits, an indoor football team.

Crime

San Angelo's crime rate is a little below the national average.

Medical Facilities

San Angelo Community Medical Center and Shannon Medical Center service the region.  There is a VA clinic on the Goodfellow Air Force Base, but the nearest VA hospital is about 100 miles away.

Transportation

San Angelo has a regional airport offering daily flights, and the nearest international airport is in San Antonio about 200 miles away.  it is not considered a walkable community, but does have a public bus system.
