Living a College Town Lifestyle in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

The small, private Wilson College makes its home here in Chambersburg, an old town in extreme south-central Pennsylvania.  President Buchanan was born near here. The population is about 13,000 and holding steady. Newsmax named Chambersburg one of the top 25 "Most Uniquely American Cities and Towns" in 2009.

What Is Special about Chambersburg

Chambersburg is in a part of Pennsylvania with a rich history through colonial days to the Civil War and beyond.The downtown boasts the restored Capitol Theatre.  Chambersburg is home to Wilson College.

Although the countryside is nice, it is isolated with no major airport or city close by.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

Chambersburg boasts a historic Capitol Theatre in its downtown. The spectacular facility opened in 1927; it was renovated in 1996.  The theater has its original organ, a Moller Opus 4800, that was installed in 1926. The Cumberland Valley Theatre Organ Society is working with the community to restore the instrument. Wilson College provides a local source of culture.

Transportation

The Pennsylvania Turnpike (I 70) is quite close to Chambersburg; there is no public transportation and the downtown is considered to be walkable; there is a service that provides scheduled transportation for a fee; The nearest major airport is in Hagerstown, Maryland, about 20 miles away and the nearest international airport is in Harrisburg, PA about 65 miles away.
