London is made up of many neighborhoods and boroughs with the price of homes varying according to location.  The average single family home is about $600,000 in the municipality, but most sales are Flats with their average price over $400,000.  There are retirement communities in London-see link on top right.

What Is Special about London

London is a world finance center, cultural hub, a major center for higher education teaching and research, and one of the major classical and popular music capitals of the world. It is also home to museums, historical sites, an entertainment district, and several parks including Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. London also offers a national health care system for all residents.

What Is Not Special about London

London is a costly place to live and visit;  does not offer a sunny, warm climate; is a major international tourist destination with millions of visitors each year.

Climate and Physical Environment

The January average temperature is about 40 degrees with snow occuring every so often, July's average is 65 degrees.  London gets about 24 inches of rain each year.

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

There is a reason why London is a top tourist destination in Europe, with it's museums, galleries, music, fashion, colleges and parks. London is home to four World Heritage Sites which include the Tower of London, Kew Gardens, the Palace of Westminister, and Saint Margaret's Church.  Other famous landmarks are Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square.

Crime

The crime rate here is hard to pinpoint as London is made up of 33 boroughs each keeping their own crime records.  As with all large cities, there are neighborhoods that are much safer than others so you would need to do your homework.

Medical Facilities

The National Health Service provides care to all residents with several facilities throughout the city.

Transportation

London boasts several modes of transportaion including the Tube, the oldest and one of the longest metro systems in the world, buses, trams, and a major international airport hub.  Cycling is also a popular way to get around.
