Seward has a picturesque setting on a narrow bay ringed on 3 sides by towering, mountains that are snow-capped all year long. It is a popular cruise ship destination on the Inland Passage. Fishing, boating, hiking, glacier watching, and camping are very important activities. The town of Seward was founded in 1912 when Alaska developed an ice-free port.
