Living a Beach Lifestyle in Edmonds, Washington

Edmonds is a beautiful city on the northwest coast of Washington State. It has a long coastline on Puget Sound, although you would not think of Edmonds as a beach community. The population was just over 40,000 in  2008. The ferry leaves here to cross Puget Sound to Kingston. From Edmonds you not only have a view of Puget Sound but you can also see the Olympic Mountains and the Cascade Range. This is a spectacularly beautiful place with tremendous recreational opportunities as well.  It is one of the more affluent towns in the state of Washington. There are active adult communities in Edmond (see link at left).  According to Zillow, the median home value in Edmonds was $897,915 in early 2022, a 26.8% increase over the past year.

What Is Special about Edmonds

The old Carnegie Library of Edmonds is an historic site and now serves as the Edmonds Museum. The Edmonds Fountain is a source of local contention and landmark. The Edmonds Arts Festival. There is a nice farmers' market from May through September. Crime is low.

The price of a home is high in Edmonds.

Climate and Physical Environment

Edmonds is on the southeast end of Puget Sound. The average July high temperature is 75 and the average January low is 36. The wettest month is December (6")

Restaurants & Cultural Scene

The Edmonds Center for the Arts opened in 2006 and presents an array of concerts, and educational and cultural events. The Edmonds Arts Festival is especially noted for painting and drawing. The Edmonds Jazz Festival is held every Memorial Day. The Driftwood Players perform at the Wade James Theatre.

Crime

The crime rate in Edmonds is about half the national average.

Swedish Edmonds Hospital is located here.

Transportation

Edmonds is fortunate to have several forms of transportation. There is AMTRAK service, commuter rail to Seattle, and the ferry to Kingston.
