San Jose del Cabo, population 48,000, is a quaint and historic beach town at the bottom of Mexico's Baja Peninsula. It is just east of Cabo San Lucas, its more famous neighbor. The area between these two towns has 20 miles of beautiful beaches that make this a great resort. Cabo San Lucas is more of a party town whereas San Jose del Cabo is more colonial and laid back. Where to Retire in San Jose del Cabo and Home Prices
There are many developments where a majority of the residents are 55+, even though they might not be age-restricted. (see Active Communities link at left).
Although in most of Mexico homes will generally cost much less than comparable ones in the States, that is not always true for both of these Cabos. Many Fortune 500 executives and other wealthy people have purchased second homes here, which has raised prices. Prices can be quite high in the exclusive communities. Prices range from the $75,000 for a small 1 bedroom apartments to the $500s for larger ones with views, into the millions for villas.
What Is Special about San Jose del Cabo
Tourism, nature tours, birding, beaches, and fishing in the Sea of Cortez. Also the Parroquia San Jose church. The many luxury resorts offer things to do. There are at least 2 golf courses.
What Is Not Special about San Jose del Cabo
It is a long way from the U.S. and the drive down can be dangerous (the U.S. State Department has issued warnings about travel in northern Mexico). Prices are high for Mexico.
Climate and Physical Environment
San Jose del Cabo is located on the southeastern tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. It is hot and dry here. Tados Santos is another interesting town just north of here.

There is some sightseeing as well as entertainment in the resorts.
Crime
There is some resort related crime but generally the area feels safe.
